Sydney 2018

Working on the Invictus Games 2018 in support of the primary sponsor, the brief was complex. On the opening day of the games in Sydney Harbour, the sponsor would host 17 nations competing on a dynamic driving course and Optimum were tasked with creating the spectator and competitor accommodations, field of play facilities and presentation support.

This included event viewing areas, hospitality suites, press lounges and private function rooms. The elected location was nothing short of unique: a UNESCO World Heritage Island situated in the heart of Sydney, with spectacular views of the Harbour Bridge, a fitting opening event for a week of unique sporting character.

Delivery

Working at extended range overseas a very special relationship with local contractors and suppliers is paramount. The technical complexities of installing on an Island, over a compressed timescale and accessible only by private barge are immense.

With little existing infrastructure, and in challenging weather conditions, a small dedicated team came together in summer 2018 to deliver a unique event.

Client, spectator and press feedback was unanimous, a tremendous success and Optimum’s fourth successive Invictus Games. We are looking forward to the next Invictus Games when the dates are confirmed.
